The County replaced its two jails with a bed count of 37 with one new jail. The site selected for the new Jail and Sheriff’s Office is adjacent to the existing County courthouse in Danville. Three existing government buildings, which contained asbestos, and an underground fuel tank had to be demolished before the construction for the new facility could begin. The 20,500 square foot facility, housing 84 inmates, had a budget of $6.8 million and was completed in March 2016.
