The Ouachita County Detention Facility is a 130-bed facility; approximately 38,000 square feet and is designed with expansion able to support as many as 250+ inmates. The design calls for an exam / medical area, vehicle sallyport, and a full kitchen.
The building consists of three distinct areas, courts with support areas, sheriff’s department, and jail with support areas. The facility has two courtrooms, with the offices in the sheriff's department housed in the administration area. The public area is separated from the sheriff’s area by an electronically secure entry door.
The administration and support areas are located in a one-story part of the building. The jail includes administration, support, and inmate housing areas. The main inmate housing area, located east of the Sheriff’s Department, is a single-story building with a mezzanine. This area holds the inmate cells, dayrooms, and control area for the guards.
